Nearly two million Jewish books were confiscated by the Nazis during the Second World War. They wanted to assemble the world’s largest collection of Jewish literature for ideological research. A new bilingual exhibition, presented in both Czech and English, showcases the results of years of worldwide research by Czech historians. It reveals the stories of books from Jewish communities and printing centres in Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, the Netherlands and Italy. The exhibition “From Shadows to Light: Hebrew Books in the Memory of the National Library of the Czech Republic ” will be on view at the National Library of the Czech Republic in Prague from 4 August to 4 October 2026.
